5.3. Syllabus
The course will address the following topics:
Topic 1. The concept of Prehistory and Archaeology.
Topic 2. Introduction to historiography.
Topic 3. The archaeological theories in the history of humanistic thought. Prehistory in all the social sciences.
Topic 4. The origins of Prehistory and evolutionism.
Topic 5. Cultural historical currents. Traditional interpretations.
Topic 6. The New Archaeology and processual explanations.
Topic 7. Functionalism, dialectical materialism, cultural materialism, cultural ecology and structuralism.
Topic 8. The post-processual, post-modern or critical Archaeology.
Topic 9. The theoretical debate in Spain. Historiographical introduction to past studies.
Topic 10. Prehistorians and archaeologists. Archaeological practice. Archaeology and society in the twenty-first century.
